silicon tonebenders??

Hi,

Just started the Axis face R3 ..had a thought. Seeing as germanium tones can be replicated with the right tweaks and low HFE transistors, has anyone had any luck taking the same revision 3 style approach to the Tonebender circuits?

I did.
The suggested gain values are 70 for Q1 & Q2, and 90 for Q3.
I used a pair of 2N2369A hfe=65 & 70 at Q1 & Q2, and a MPSA42 hfe=97 at Q3.
But note that the circuit must be modified as Q1's bias are intended for leaky germanium transistors.
Go to generalguitargadgets.com; they have the modified circuit.
Silicon version of the 3-knob tonebender must also be modified as Q3 won't bias.

Try this mods also: place a Ge diode from Q3 base to Q3 emitter, or a a pair of back-to-back from Q2 collector to Q3 base.
