Earlier this past week I got a package in the mail from Steve Daniels over at Small Bear Electronics. It was one of the 1K reverse audio taper samples that he had made for him by Alpha. He sent one to me to test out in the Axis Face as the "Attack" control, and all I have to say is WOW!!
As you can see, the pot is 16mm, solder lugs and has a 0.25" solid shaft. Fits perfectly inside the Hammond B box that I use for all my builds now!
I installed the new pot in my blue metallic Axis Face MKII, and it competely eliminates the "bunching" of fuzz that occurs at the end of the regular linear taper fuzz pot's rotation. Now all that fuzz is spread out over the last 50% - 60% of the pot's rotation...it's fantastic. I think that this new 1KC pot puts the Axis Face over the top as the best Fuzz Face-based circuit in the world...and it's only going to get better!
Steve says that he'll have regular stock of the 1KC pots in about 6 weeks (but hopefully less!).
I never use near minimum gain so, I just add a little [100ohm or 220ohm or] between the pot and ground if I want to jack up the gain for a Q set or smaller input cap, or across lugs 1 and 3 to decrease gain.
