mccoy wah build questions?

hi phillip. built the mccoy wah. it sounds great, but at toe down alittle britle and ear piercing The only parts that i didnt buy were the ICAR pot and two 0.01 caps were greencaps..any suggestions?

also you state "The electrolytic capacitor in the circuit is a Ducati 4µF non-polarized instead of the standard 4.7µF polarized capacitors found in other wah circuits"

on the parts list you call for a 4.7NP...is this an error?

thanks

Wah pedals can sometimes be quite ear-piercing when toe-down.  The parts you omitted shouldn't make that much of a difference, although the taper of the wah pot sometimes has some good or bad influence on how well the wah pedal wahs.

The 4uF NP capacitor is basically extinct, so the closest thing left is the 4.7uF NP.  The extra .7uF won't make any difference in the sound at all.  A regular 4.7uF polarized electro. will work equally as well.

Phillip, I hate to differ with you, but you can get 4.0 uF non-polarized capacitors that will work if you dont mind them being~1/3 the size, larger and axial leaded instead of radial leaded like Ducatis. Try a websearch with google or other search engines.

But I agree with Phillip, in the fact that capacitors in certain values are very hard to find, because capacitors have standardized in values. There are ways of getting non standard values in resistors, but they are much harder to find in capacitors. Thanks-tfc

You can still get 4uF capacitors if you really look for them.  Nichicon makes some really "oddball" value electroyltic capacitors, like 12uF, 15uF (like I use in the Axis Face), 18uF, 27uF, etc.  The problem with the Nichicon capacitors is that they cost three or four times more than the Xicon/Alpha electros. that I use.

At any rate, using a 4.7uF capacitor in the Clyde clone won't change the sound of the pedal at all.
